Denise Nakanishi is one of Hilo’s most acclaimed real estate agents. She reached the rank of Major in the US Army and is now known by many as “Major Mom.” The nickname fits–not only does Denise bring the discipline and mission-oriented attitude you’d expect, she’s also caring and compassionate, always looking out for her clients like they’re her own family.
Having made the Big Island her home since 1987, Denise combines her extensive knowledge of the area with a sharp focus on customer service and the results speak for themselves. She is a recent recipient of the Chairman’s Circle Award, President’s Circle, Top Producing Agent since 2001, and a Realtor of the Year. Denise stays ahead of the curve because she’s passionate about education–she served as Education Chair for Hawaii Island REALTORS® for many years. She’s one of Big Island’s best real estate resources, known for her weekly article in the Hawaii Tribune Herald.
With Susan E. Lee Loy, a licensed real estate broker and her daughter Mealoha by her side, Denise leads Team Nakanishi for Hawaiian Realty. They are committed to their family, to their work, and to their community. In her little time away from work, Denise is a committed runner and Grandy. She also devotes many hours to various Veterans’ Organizations, the East Hawaii Cultural Center, and the Hawaii Island REALTORS®.
Mealoha Kraus is a REALTOR® that knows her community. She grew up in the real estate industry, and now works alongside Susan E. Lee Loy and her mother Denise Nakanishi. They each bring a rare combination of passion, skill, and knowledge to their job. Together, they form Hawaiian Realty, a team dedicated to customer service all across the Big Island.
A tech-savvy and forward-thinking agent, Mealoha is always looking for ways to make life easier for herself and for her clients. By embracing technology, she’s been able to decrease paper use, increase exposure, and improve communication. Mealoha believes in delivering clear, frequent updates to her clients, and it’s something they’ve come to appreciate–much of her business comes from repeat customers and their referrals.
Mealoha is always among the top producing agents. In 2009, she was named REALTOR® of the Year. A graduate of the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Mealoha is very active in the local real estate community. She is also a graduate of the inaugural class of the Hawaii Association of REALTORS® Leadership Academy. Mealoha has gone on to serve as President, Vice President, and Secretary for the Hawaii Island Board of REALTORS®, plus a three-year stint as the Director of the Hawaii Association of REALTORS®. She's also the Secretary of the Hilo Skate Plaza Coalition, a facility for children of all ages, working to create a safe place for children to roller skate and skateboard in Hilo.
Mealoha is the proud mother of 2 children and enjoys playing roller derby actively as "Tsunamea" for the Paradise Roller Girls.
Susan E. Lee Loy loves an adventure! A licensed real estate broker since 2005, Susan is a proud member of Hawaiian Realty. Alongside Denise Nakanishi and Mealoha Kraus, Susan helps Hawaiian Realty provide the best service possible for their clients by combining cutting edge technology with their passion for the industry and their community.
Prior to finding her adopted home in Hilo in 1998, Susan worked in several fields (including real estate) and raised a family in Southern California. As a result of her dedication to her clients, colleagues, and the Hilo real estate market, Susan has become an integral member of the Hawaii Real Estate community–she recently became the 2013 President Elect of Hawaii Island REALTORS®.
Shortly after moving to the Big Island, Susan worked as a Community Association Manager for several years. Thanks to this experience, she's greatly familiar with many condo properties in East Hawaii. She moved back to full-time real estate in 2004 with the goal of providing her clients the best possible representation from beginning to end. She's a passionate and trustworthy agent who brings a mix of energy, experience, and education to every transaction.
When she's not working or serving on various real estate committees, Susan and her husband Gerald spend their time paddling canoe in Hilo Bay and cheering on the UH Warrior Football. She's also a proud member of the Zonta Club of Hilo, an organization providing service and advocacy to improve the health, education, economic, and political status to girls and women worldwide.
